“You’re always five minutes away from a life-changing moment.”
In between rehearsing, I’ve had inspiring conversations with the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong’s Chief Conductor Vahan Mardirossian.
He shared that as a fresh music graduate in Paris, he spent most of his time rehearsing— even when no work seemed to be in sight for any of the young musicians.
Then one day, a well-known concert pianist was unable to perform for a big show. And guess what? Vahan had practiced so much, he knew the repertoire by heart. On that evening, an influential critic watched, and wrote about him the next day. And just like that, his career was set.
He said something I resonate with— that a life-changing moment can happen anytime, within the next five minutes, even. What matters is that you’re prepared for it, so that you will have the confidence to say yes.
